Snail crossing the road

5 Telltale Signs Your Business Broadband Needs An Upgrade

Slow download speeds, signal dead spots, glitching video calls? If any of the following sound like they apply to your business, it’s time to upgrade your business broadband.

1. You’re still using commercially available equipment

A successful business can grow quickly, but its WIFI can often get left behind. Although WiFi equipment intended for the home user may well be cheaper, it is unlikely that it can provide the performance your workplace requires.

Enterprise-grade routers are always superior to commercially available models. They tend to have better range, faster maximum speeds, more ports available and advanced security features.

Some business WIFI providers like Carden Telecoms provide a brand-new router and modem with their WIFI packages.

2. Your office has WIFI “dead spots”

Are your employees complaining of areas of your office with no signal? Do their devices disconnect as they move from one room to another?

Modern, enterprise-grade routers have higher signal strength and a greater range than older hardware or routers deigned for residential settings, helping to reach every employee and every device.

If you have a particularly large office (over 200 square meters) or an office which spans more than one floor, you might also benefit from the installation of several WIFI Access Points.

These are WIFI relays that wire directly into your router and then placed a distance away from it to increase the overall range of your WIFI signal.

3. You’re having issues with video calls and presentations

With remote working and multi-premises businesses becoming the norm, there is a greater reliance on video-calling, video presentations and conference calling. The is delivered via a VoIP (Voice over IP) network.

While this offers far more features and a more personal connection than an analogue phone call, the strain on your bandwidth can be very large.

Glitchy, clipping video calls are annoying enough when they are happening internal but when they involve a customer, they can be seriously detrimental to how your professionalism and customer service is perceived.

4. You’re expanding your use of IoT devices

Business Insider currently estimates that there will be 41 billion IoT devices in operation by the end of 2025. How many of them will be in your office? Almost all new pieces of technology are “IoT Devices” by virtue of them being connected to the internet.

Internet connected security cameras, alarm systems, EPOS terminals all require a strong and reliable internet connection, and each takes its toll on your available bandwidth.

By upgrading to a high-speed business internet connection with a dual-band router you can dedicated a section of your bandwidth specifically to these business-critical devices.

5. You are relying more and more on SaaS and cloud applications

Corporations increasingly rely on web-based tools across departments for their daily tasks. If this cannot be handled by your existing infrastructure, then your network can overload. If these applications are vital to your day-to-day business.

Upgrade your ageing wireless infrastructure to ensure that business-critical data is accessible to every member of your team whenever they need it.
